School Programs

Day School

Day School at Atlanta Country Day grades 7-12. Atlanta Country Day School offers a college prep curriculum for students grades 7-12 Monday - Thursday. Classes are 6:1 student—teacher ratio which enables the teacher to give personal attention to each student.

We teach the academics, but also incorporate into the program study and organizational skills.  In this way students learn and understand the importance of using these tools on a daily basis. ACDS offers a study hall so students can ask questions and start homework in class. As a result, students understand the homework and can ask questions before they go home, and the work completed in school minimizes students’ time spent on homework at home. It is the philosophy of ACDS that if a student can put in a solid 7-8 hour workday, that’s enough.  Group and individualized classes are offered depending on the needs of the student.  Delicious catered lunches are offered each day. Atlanta Country Day is very proud of the positive repoire students enjoy with the faculty and administration within a family type setting.  An application and interview are required for admission.

Extended Day School

Extended Day program is offered by Atlanta Country Day School year round.  It is an individualized program custom designed to meet the needs of each student.  We have been offering this program for 35 years and have found it very successful for students who have failed a course in the past, want to get ahead in their academic career or for any reason have not been able to finish a semester at their existing school. It is also offered to students who are out of school and want to return to finish courses to obtain a high school diploma.

Each program is unique in that we can offer any core curriculum courses for grades 9-12 any time during the year.  It is especially beneficial for seniors who have failed a first semester course and want to make that course up immediately so they can graduate on time and walk with their class.  Each program is fully accredited.  An appointment is required with the Headmaster to plan each program.

Summer School

Atlanta Country Day School has been offering a full summer school program mornings and afternoons for 35 years.  We offer all academic courses including foreign languages and lab sciences in a group or individualized one- on -one class Monday - Thursday.  Students who have conflicts with the scheduled group classes may opt to take an individualized custom designed course.  Classes are very small.

All information and forms for the summer school can be downloaded online or you can contact the school with any questions or concerns.  An approval form from the student's current school must be filled out and signed by a school administrator to insure that the student is taking the correct course and it is approved by the school.  Applications are accepted up until the day of the first class.  A $50.00 deposit is required to hold the student's place.

As in the day school the summer school also enjoys the catered lunches (at an additional cost) as well as a positive relaxed atmosphere in the classroom..

Home Schooling/Distance Learning

Through our accreditation by the Accrediting Commission on Independent Study, Atlanta Country Day School and Riverside Learning Lab offer curriculum and certification of home school and distance learning credits as well as validation of credit from non-accredited programs.

Performing Arts Program

Atlanta Country Day School's performing arts program is led by our new performing arts director, Chris Ikner. Chris brings to ACDS an abundance of talent and experience in the performing arts field of study.

A teacher of history, literature, and performing arts, Chris is thrilled to call Atlanta Country Day School home. "To get to do what I love while inspiring the minds of such talented youth is truly a dream!"

He is currently directing the musical "Parade" in Sandy Springs at Act 3 Playhouse, and also performing the role of "Britt Craig".  This is his second time on their stage.   His first was starring as the title role in Jekyll and Hyde the Musical (2013 Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre Award, Best Leading Actor in a Musical).

Other favorite Atlanta credits include a variety of roles in such shows as Cabaret, The Rocky Horror Show, Into the Woods,  and Love, Sex, and the I.R.S.  Additional Credits include: Fiddler on the Roof (2005 National Tour), Beauty and the Beast - Live on Stage (Disney-MGM Studios), Oklahoma! (Oklahoma Shakespeare Festival), The Normal Heart (TLC-Professional Theatre Workshop), Cinderella's Mice (Vital Theatre Company - NYC).

As a director, Chris recently directed a benefit performance of the play, A Piece of My Heart with Act 3 Productions.  He served as the Artistic Director of Emerald City Character Company in Dublin, Georgia for four years, and while performing in the 75th annual production of The Lost Colony in Manteo, NC, was able to direct bare: A Pop Opera as part of their Professional Theatre Workshop Series. 

Special Programs

Atlanta Country Day School offers customized, traveling programs for young arts, athletes, and others whose special talents and goals prevent them from enrolling in a traditional day school program.
